I am very glad to join the Institute of International Economics of Nankai University. I am a recent PhD graduate from the Department of Economics at Michigan State University (MSU). My fields of specialization are international finance, economic development and growth. My doctoral dissertation discusses the role of infrastructure capital in China’s regional economic growth. The result shows that some infrastructure has contributed negatively to economic growth during some time period in some regions. This suggests overinvestment in infrastructure subsectors. Based on the result, the dissertation further explores the investment decision making process and its institutional arrangement in China. It also provides a theoretical analysis of the reasons for overinvestment under decentralized fiscal arrangement. Related to this topic, my research interests are in land financing and local government debt in the urbanization process. In the field of international finance, I am mainly interested in capital market liberalization and related topics.

I have more than two years of work experience in international organizations. From the years 2008 to 2010, I was Junior Professional Associate at the World Bank South Asia Region Transport sector. My major responsibilities are analytical and empirical analysis of transport projects in countries such as India, Pakistan and Nepal. In the summer of 2012, I was PhD intern at the International Monetary Fund, working on structural transformation issues in its flagship report “Regional Economic Outlook for Sub-Saharan Africa”.

Prior to joining MSU, I was a graduate from the Johns Hopkins-Nanjing Center in the field of international economics. I was also recommended to the Department of International Trade in the School of Business of Nanjing University and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in International Business Communication from Nanjing University in China.
